This work deals with bringing forth the visceral and tactile memories the skin beholds as a container, contrasted with its ongoing change. The performer\u2019s skin and various fabrics serve as \u2018canvases\u2019 for an ongoing layering of memories that are a part of one\u2019s identity.\u00a0By making this live performance, I want to challenge the trend of working \u2018remotely\u2019 where cognitive work surpasses the visible physical labour. While the work has an autobiographical starting point, I have witnessed the universality of the body also in my work as dance\/movement therapist with the elderly with dementia with whom memory processing must be approached from the experiential state instead of coherent conversations.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I wish to collaborate with a scenographer in future stages of this project. I have been blessed to be part of Encuentros platform, a group of performing artists supporting each other to realise their projects. Their feedback has been and is paramount to this project. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The seed for this project was planted when I was about five years old, in a car, realising that I often wanted to stay on the road instead of reaching a destination\u2026 Another strong, concrete moment was during my first winter in the UK when I realised, walking on the street in January, that I miss the coldness of the Finnish winter. My body felt confused and disoriented with a different cycle of the year, something was “off”. It was also a particularly warm winter in the UK, but suddenly the temperatures dropped. It was BodyWeather<\/a> before I knew of the practice… Artistically\/visually I have been inspired by the impressions of ‘Liikkeell\u00e4 liikkeess\u00e4 2009’ by Tomi Paasonen<\/a> (a photo below), being part of Annabie Daly’s audio-visual exhibition ‘Kissing Our Heart<\/a>‘ in 2015, and the work of Rosalie Wammes<\/a>. This is an ongoing project generated by living the daily life. It questions the idea of a \u2018finished\u2019 performance as well as the accuracy and trustworthiness of human memory processing. I have been collecting postcards from many places I have been to as easy-to-carry-souvenirs for myself, also knowing that I want to do\/make something<\/em> with them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
